Eric Carle eight classics!

Eric Carle is celebrating the 40th anniversary of the publication of The Hungry Caterpillar, one of his most popular books. Carle is consistently wonderful; each of his books is a little gem with simple rhythmic text and innovatively engaging illustrations. If you’re ever in Amherst, MA, be sure to stop by the Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar

The Very Busy Spider

The farm animals try to divert a busy little spider from spinning her web, but she persists and produces a thing of both beauty and usefulness.

The Grouchy Ladybug

The Very Quiet Cricket

A very quiet cricket who wants to rub his wings together and make a sound as do so many other animals finally achieves his wish; and includes a battery-operated sound of a cricket at the end of the book.

The Very Lonely Firefly

A lonely firefly goes out into the night searching for other fireflies.

Little Cloud

A little cloud becomes all sorts of things–a sheep, an airplane, trees, a hat–before joining other clouds and raining.

The Mixed-Up Chameleon

A bored chameleon wishes it could be more like all the other animals it sees, but soon decides it would rather just be itself. Cutouts along the edges of the pages display various animals and colors.
